Kanaka Durga Book Center

We've been here at H. No -2-4-1355 in Ashoka Colony for a good while now. Kanaka Durga Book Center is mostly just a place where folks from Bavani Nagar come to find what they need for school or just a bit of reading. It’s a small shop, really. We spend most of our mornings unpacking boxes and trying to keep the shelves from getting too messy, though that’s easier said than done when kids are looking through things. People stop by on their way home, maybe pick up a notebook or a pen, or ask if a certain book has arrived yet. If it isn't here, we try to get it. It’s not fancy or anything. Just a lot of paper and the smell of new ink. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded in the afternoons when the schools let out, and the noise picks up quite a bit then. We know most of the regulars by name since they’ve been coming here since they were small. We don't have a big staff, usually just one or two of us behind the counter handling the change and bagging things up. It’s a quiet life for the most part, surrounded by stacks of paper and school supplies. We just keep the doors open and see who walks in. The light isn't the brightest in the back corners, but we know where everything is kept. That’s just how it is here.
