Arup Karmakar & Co.

Our place is on Arabinda Road in Naihati. We are part of the 24 Parganas North district. Arup Karmakar & Co. has been a part of this street for a long time. The road gets quite busy with local traffic. You see people on bicycles and rickshaws going past all day. Our building is an older one. It has high ceilings and thick walls that keep it relatively cool even when the humidity is high. We don't have air conditioning, just some ceiling fans that hum all day. The floor is made of old stone that has worn smooth over the years. We have a few desks where we keep our ledgers and paperwork. It’s a very quiet office most of the time. We aren't the type to shout about what we do. We just get on with the daily tasks. Sometimes we sit out on the front step for a few minutes to watch the world go by on Arabinda Road. The local shops around us sell everything from tea to hardware. We know all the owners by name. It’s the kind of place where people stop to talk for ten minutes even if they are in a hurry. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just have our name on the door and our address in the book. It’s a simple, honest way to run a business in a town like Naihati.
