Soda Hut

Soda Hut is right at Inderganj Chouraha in the Laskhar area. If you’ve ever stood at that intersection, you know how busy and hot it can get. We are the spot where people stop to get a quick, fizzy drink to cool off while they wait for their transport or a break in the traffic. It is a very small setup, basically just a counter and our equipment. We do not have much room for sitting, so most people just stand around the Chouraha or take their drinks with them. The noise from the honking cars and buses is constant, but that is just life in Laskhar. We spend our day mixing drinks and making sure we do not run out of ice. The ice is the most important part, especially when the sun is beating down on the pavement outside. We have been at this corner for quite a while, and we have become a bit of a landmark for people meeting up. There is nothing fancy about our hut, it is just a practical place to get a cold soda. We keep the counter as clean as we can and try to serve everyone quickly so they can get back to their day. The Chouraha is never really quiet, even late at night. There is always a rickshaw driver looking for a fare or someone walking home. Our soda machine is old, but it still makes the best fizz in Laskhar. I spend a lot of time cleaning the nozzles and making sure the CO2 tanks are full. It's a simple business, but it keeps us busy.
