If you’re looking for us, we’re in Dr. Singh Bhawan on Char Shar Ka Naka Road, right by Hazira Chowk. It’s a lively part of town. The clinic is mostly filled with glass cases showing off different frames. We’ve got everything from the cheap plastic ones to the sturdier metal ones. In the back, there’s a small dark room where we test people’s eyes. It’s got that old machine you have to look into while we switch the lenses. The building itself is quite old, and you can tell by the way the floors look. We don't have a lot of space, so things can get a bit cluttered with boxes of lenses and spare parts for glasses. I spend a lot of my time tightening tiny screws and cleaning fingerprints off the displays. People come in from Hazira Chowk, often complaining that they can’t read the newspaper like they used to. We sit them down and figure out what strength they need. It’s a slow process sometimes, especially with the older folks who want to chat for a while. We don't mind. It’s just the two of us working here most days. We don’t do any big advertising; the sign outside is enough. When the sun goes down, the lights from the chowk shine into the shop. We finish up, lock the cabinets, and head home. It’s a simple business, but it keeps us busy and serves the people around here.
