Our shop is inside the Raj Apartment complex in the City Centre area of Gwalior. Being located near N S Memorial School means there is always a lot of movement around us. You see parents dropping off their kids in the morning and apartment residents coming down for things like eggs or a loaf of bread. We keep the doors open for long hours to make sure we’re here when people need us. The shelves are packed with kirana items like different dals, rice, and cooking oils. Because of the school, we also stock a lot of stationery and snacks. When classes end, the shop gets filled with kids looking for cold drinks or packets of chips. It can be quite loud and chaotic for about an hour, but then it settles back into a quiet routine. We try to keep the stock organized, though things often end up stacked on top of each other in such a small space. Much of our day is spent checking the fridge or looking at expiry dates on the milk packets. The walls have a few scuffs from moving heavy crates around, but we don't worry too much about that. We don't have any big business plans or fancy advertisements. We just focus on having the right items in stock so that when our neighbors come looking, we have what they want. It is a simple, practical way to run things here for the building and the school.
