Baba Ki Kutiiya

Baba Ki Kutiiya is over on Baijataal Motimahal Road in Gwalior. We are right in the Phool Bagh area, near the Chopati Haat Bazar. If you come through Gate No 1 of Phool Bagh, you’ll basically see where we are. It’s a lively part of town with the market right there. Our place is more like a small hut, which is what the name means anyway. We kept it simple. There is no air conditioning or plush carpets here. Just some benches and the smell of cooking. We get a lot of people who are just finished shopping at the Haat Bazar and need a break. It can get pretty hot in the summer, but we have some fans going. We've been here long enough that the local shopkeepers all know us. We don't try to be anything we aren't. It’s just a place to eat. Sometimes we run out of things if the crowd is bigger than we expected. We just cook what we can and hope people like it. The area has a lot of history, and being near Motimahal is nice. We see tourists sometimes, but mostly it's just local Gwalior folks. We open up early to start the preparations. It’s a lot of chopping and stirring before the first customer even shows up. That’s just the daily routine for us at the kutiiya, and we stay until the last pot is scrubbed.
