Ankur Kirana & General Store

Our store is sitting right at Baradari Chauraha in the Morar area of Gwalior. It’s quite a lively spot near Sadar Bazar, so there’s always something happening outside. We started this kirana and general store because people in this part of town needed a reliable place to get their daily supplies. We carry everything from kitchen staples like flour and pulses to general things like notebooks or batteries. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside when we have more than three or four customers, but we manage. The shelves are packed pretty high. We try to keep track of what people are asking for so we don't run out. Gwalior winters are cold and the summers are tough, but the shop stays busy regardless. We aren’t some big corporate outlet; it’s just a local shop for local people. Most of our customers are regulars who live just a few streets away. They know where things are kept better than we do sometimes. We like the chatter and the noise of the chauraha. It makes the day go by faster. We don't use any fancy systems, just a simple ledger and a calculator. It’s how we’ve always done it. If you need something for your house and you’re in the Morar area, you can just walk in. We’re usually here from morning until the market starts to wind down at night.
