Working from the 6th floor of Sri Kamakhya Tower has its ups and downs. If the elevator is acting up, it’s a long walk, but usually, it is fine. We are located right behind Sohum Shoppe in Christian Basti, which is a pretty well-known area on G.S. Road. Dealing with TMT bars is a heavy business. We spend a lot of our time on the phone or looking at delivery schedules to make sure the steel gets where it needs to go. It can get pretty hectic in the office when multiple orders come in at once. My desk is usually covered in papers and notes about weight and sizes. Christian Basti is always crowded, so getting trucks in and out of the area requires some planning. We aren't a massive corporation with hundreds of employees. It's just a small group of us here trying to keep the supplies moving to different construction sites. Sometimes customers come up to the office to talk about their projects and we sit down with some tea. It is a bit quieter up here on the sixth floor compared to the noise down on G.S. Road. We’ve been at this for a while and have seen the city grow with more buildings going up every year. It feels like we are a small part of that growth. The work is mostly paperwork and logistics, but it’s what we know how to do. Some days are long, but that is part of the job.
