Travel And Living is situated right at the Indian Institute Of Technology, which gives our office a bit of a specific atmosphere. Being around the campus means we see a lot of students and faculty members who are looking to get away for a bit or need to travel for work. Our days are mostly spent on the computer, looking through flight schedules and checking train availability. It is a lot of back-and-forth communication, making sure the dates and times match up for everyone. The office is small and practical, with a few maps on the walls and plenty of notebooks for jotting down travel details. It gets busy during the holiday breaks when everyone wants to head home or go on a trip. Sometimes the systems are slow, and we have to stay on the phone for a long time to get a booking confirmed. We don’t have fancy brochures or a big marketing team; we just handle the bookings and the logistics as they come in. It’s mostly just administrative work, but it requires a lot of attention to detail so that no one gets stranded. The campus environment is usually calm, which helps when we are trying to figure out a complicated itinerary. We just take it one booking at a time and try to keep everything organized for the travelers. It’s a steady job in a unique location.
