Sadhan Saha General Store

In the middle of Barbazar in Guwahati, you’ll find Sadhan Saha General Store. It’s a noisy part of town, with rickshaws and people always moving about. I’ve been running this shop for years, and my hands are usually covered in some kind of dust from the sacks of grain. We don’t have any fancy signs, just the name painted above the door. Inside, it’s a bit of a maze with boxes stacked up high. I know exactly where everything is, even if it looks messy to someone else. I handle the accounts in a thick brown notebook that’s seen better days. Customers come in looking for small things, maybe a single lightbulb or a packet of biscuits. I try to keep the prices where they should be because everyone in the neighborhood works hard for their money. Sometimes my neighbors sit on the wooden bench outside and we talk about the weather or the local politics. It’s a community thing more than just a store. When the monsoon hits, I have to be careful about the roof leaking, but we manage to keep the goods dry. I don’t plan on changing much about how I run things. It’s worked for this long, so why fix it? The shop is my second home, and the people who shop here are like extended family. It’s just a plain, honest place to get what you need for the day without any fuss.
