Our hardware shop is situated in Ward No. 2 of Lakhipur, over in the Goalpara district. It is a long building filled with everything from boxes of nails to heavy shovels and pipes. The air always has a bit of a metallic scent because of all the iron and steel we keep in stock. We spend most of our mornings unloading trucks and putting things in their proper bins. It can get quite hot in the summer, so we have a couple of big floor fans that we keep running all day. Customers come in looking for specific tools or parts for their home repairs. We spend a lot of time helping them find exactly what fits. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks from where we dropped heavy items over the years. We have a small counter near the front where we write out the bills by hand. There is a lot of chatter in the shop as locals stop by to talk while they buy what they need. Goalpara is a nice district and we feel settled here in Ward 2. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. Everything is just laid out so you can see what is available. It is a straightforward business and we just try to keep the shelves full so no one leaves empty-handed. We stay open late enough for folks finishing work to grab what they need on their way home.
