Weavers (The)

We are set up down here in Guwahati, specifically at the Maria Montessori House Of Children on Mother Teresa Road. If you are looking for us, we are in the 5th by lane. It’s not a huge place, just a simple setup where we get our weaving done. The sound of the looms is pretty much the background music of our lives. We’ve been in this part of Assam for a long time. The neighborhood is a mix of houses and small businesses. We see the kids from the school nearby every day. It makes the place feel a bit more alive than a regular industrial spot. Our workspace is filled with threads and half-finished pieces. Sometimes the humidity in Guwahati makes the yarn act up, but we’ve learned how to deal with it over the years. We don't have a big sign or a fancy reception desk. Most people just walk in through the lane. We just sit at our stations and work through the orders. It’s quiet work in a way, despite the noise of the machinery. We drink a lot of tea while we work. The light coming through the windows is usually enough for us to see what we are doing. It's just a regular group of us trying to make things right. We don't really do the whole corporate thing. We just show up and weave. That's the whole of it. No more, no less.
