About Mm Spice Industry – Food & Beverages in Guwahati
We are located in a small village called Padumpukhuri. It’s part of the Kapashbari post office area and falls under the Muraghar police station. Being in a village means things move a bit slower for Mm Spice Industry. We have a small plot of land where we set up our processing unit. It’s basically a large shed with some heavy machinery inside. The machines are for grinding and mixing spices. They are very loud, and you can hear them from the other side of the village. We try not to run them too late in the evening. Most of the people who work here are from the nearby houses. We all know each other. The work is very physical. We have to lift heavy sacks of raw spices and feed them into the grinders. The air is always full of the smell of cloves and cardamom. It’s a nice smell, but it can be overwhelming after eight hours. Sometimes the power goes out, which is common in our village. When that happens, we just sit outside under the neem tree and wait for it to come back. We don't have any big corporate structure. It’s just a group of us trying to make a living. The road to the village is narrow and gets very muddy during the monsoon. We often have to use a tractor to bring in our supplies. It’s just the way things are in Padumpukhuri and we are fine with that.
