College Road in Guwahati is always a bit of a mess with all the traffic and the rain that seems to come out of nowhere. Kk Stores is tucked away right in the middle of all that noise. We get a lot of students because of the location, so we keep plenty of notebooks and pens along with the usual bread and eggs. The shop isn't very large, and the ceiling is a bit low, which makes it feel even smaller when three or four people are inside at once. We have a small radio that stays on most of the day, usually playing some local news or old songs. The shelves are made of old wood and they creak a little when we restock the heavy cans of condensed milk or large bags of flour. Sometimes the humidity makes the paper packets a bit soft, so we have to be careful how we stack them. It’s a busy spot, especially in the mornings before the first classes start. We don't really have a system for where things go, it just sort of happened over the years, but if you ask, we can find a packet of salt or a specific brand of biscuits pretty quickly. It gets a bit dark in the corners during the monsoon season when the clouds are heavy, but we just leave the door open to get whatever light we can from the street. It’s just a small shop for the daily crowd.
