Aimal General Store

The Main Road in Guwahati can be quite a mess when it rains, which happens a lot here. Aimal General Store is tucked between a pharmacy and a small tailor shop. I usually get here around eight in the morning. The first thing I do is wipe down the jars because the humidity makes everything a bit sticky. We carry the usual household items, nothing too special. If you need salt, oil, or maybe some biscuits, I usually have them in stock. I keep the heavy bags of rice near the bottom so they don't tip over. The shop is quite narrow, so if three people come in at once, it feels very full. I have a small stool where I sit and watch the traffic go by when it's not busy. I don't really have a big sign outside, just the name painted on the wall. My son helps me on weekends, but mostly it is just me. We get a lot of travelers passing through because of the location. They usually just want a bottle of water or some chips. It’s a simple life, but it pays the bills and keeps me connected to the town. I've seen a lot of shops open and close around here, but I just keep doing my thing every single day. It is quiet in the late afternoon but things pick up once people get off the bus.
