A. B Agarbatti

Out in the Morigaon area, specifically in the Pachim Nagaon part of Jagiroad, is where we have our small setup for A. B Agarbatti. Making incense sticks is what we do every day. It is a very quiet and repetitive kind of work compared to what you would see in a big city factory. The whole place smells strongly of sandalwood, jasmine, or whatever other scents we are using for the batch that week. Sometimes that smell is so thick it stays on your clothes and in your hair long after you have gone home. We use bamboo sticks and a special mixture of charcoal and oils to make the agarbattis by hand. It takes a lot of patience to get it right. Pachim Nagaon is a nice, peaceful place to work, and it is surrounded by a bit more greenery than you would find in the middle of a busy town. We aren't a huge company with a lot of workers or global reach. We just supply the local shops in the area and some people in the districts nearby. Our building is very simple, with just enough room for the raw materials and the finished bundles of sticks. We don't use any high-tech machinery; it is mostly just the same traditional methods that people have been using for a long time. It can be a bit difficult when the monsoon rains start because the humidity makes it hard for the sticks to dry out properly. We just work around the weather.
