Smrati Women Welfare Foundation

Our foundation is located in a regular house in Sector 12, house number 166. We didn't want a big office building because we wanted to stay close to where people actually live. It’s a simple home that we’ve repurposed for our work with women in the area. There’s no big neon sign or anything like that. Most folks find us through a friend or a neighbor. We usually sit in the front room to handle our daily business. Some days the house is full of people and noise, and other days it is very quiet. We don't have any corporate sponsors or big money behind us. It’s all very much a local effort. We spend a lot of time on the phone or just listening to stories from women who come by. It can get a bit messy with papers everywhere and the kitchen always has a kettle going for tea. Being in the middle of a family neighborhood makes us feel part of the community. We aren't trying to be some massive organization. We just want to be a reliable place for folks in our corner of the city. The work is tough sometimes and we don't always know the best way forward, but we try our best. We just keep working away at it because it feels like the right thing to do. We're just neighbors helping neighbors, really.
