Working near the highway is mostly about the sound of trucks. We are at the 38 Km stone in Khandsa. It gets dusty here. The shop floor is busy from morning till evening. Most of us have been here for years, just doing the work that needs doing. Sometimes the power goes out, but we manage. It’s an industrial area, nothing fancy. We deal with auto parts mostly. The commute along the Delhi-Jaipur highway can be a pain in the neck during peak hours. You see the same faces every day. There is a small tea stall just down the road where everyone gathers during the break. It's not a big corporate office with glass walls, it's just a factory where people get their hands dirty. We've got machines that have seen better days but they still run fine if you know how to talk to them. The village of Khandsa has changed a lot since we started. More buildings, more people. We keep the gates open during the day to let some air in, though it just brings in the heat during June. It's just a regular job for most of us. We try to get things out on time so the trucks can take them away. If you come by, you’ll probably hear the hum of the machines before you even see the sign. It’s just how things go here at Rico Auto.
