We operate out of Sector 23 in Gurgaon. The house number is 688, which is where K S Gupta Co has its main office. It’s a regular building in a regular street, nothing that stands out much from the houses around it. We’ve been in Haryana for a long time, working through all the big changes in the city. Gurgaon used to be much quieter than it is now, with fewer cars and less noise. Our day starts around nine when the phone starts ringing and the first delivery arrives. We deal with a lot of different suppliers and customers across the region. It’s mostly about keeping track of numbers and making sure orders are moving along the way they should. The office is a bit crowded with files and old ledgers from years ago. We haven’t gone completely digital yet, so there’s still plenty of paper around on every desk. My father started this business and now we just keep it going the same way he did. We have a small staff, mostly people who have been with us for a decade or more. We know our regulars by their voices when they call up to ask about a price. There isn’t much to the place, just a few desks, some chairs, and a tea kettle that’s always on the stove. Sometimes the traffic outside gets loud enough to hear through the windows, but we are used to it by now. It’s just steady work that keeps us moving forward every day.
