We are set up at Tara Chand’s place in the village of Daultabad. It is a bit of a different spot for something like marine studies, being away from the coast, but we make it work. Most of what we do involves getting people ready for a life at sea. It is a lot of paperwork and teaching the basics to those who want to find work on ships. Daultabad is a quiet area and it gives the students a good place to focus without too many distractions. We started this because we saw a lot of young people interested in seafaring but they didn't know where to begin. The building is simple and we keep things pretty informal. There is always someone coming in to ask about the next course or how to get their documents in order. We have a few instructors who have spent years on the water, so they know the real deal. It isn't like a big university with fancy hallways. We just have some rooms with desks and some equipment to show how things work on a vessel. Sometimes the internet is slow or it gets too noisy outside, but we just carry on. It’s about giving people a start in a career that can take them all over the world. We are just a small group trying to help out and share what we know about the maritime world. It is practical work and we like it that way.
