Chawla Motors

Delhi Gurgaon Road is always loud with traffic, so Chawla Motors is right in the middle of all that noise. We spend most of our time looking at engines or dealing with parts that arrived late. It’s a lot of grease and metal here. Sometimes the floor gets slippery with oil, even if we scrub it. We have a few chairs for people to sit on while they wait, but they usually end up standing around the door watching the cars go by. My hands are usually dirty by noon. It’s hard to keep things clean when you’re working on old machinery all day long. We have a small office in the corner where the paperwork stays, though it’s usually buried under some spare parts or old bills. The tea guy comes around twice a day, which is the only time we really stop for a break. People stop in because they’re driving between Delhi and Gurgaon and something starts making a sound it shouldn't. We just take a look and see what can be done. It’s not a shiny showroom like the ones you see in the big malls. It’s just a workshop with tools and a bit of a mess. We’ve been at this spot for quite some time, and the road has changed a lot, but we’re still here doing the same work every morning till the sun goes down and the traffic slows a bit.
