Out here in Rewari, Haryana, things are a bit different than the big city. Our place is focused on glass, and you can tell as soon as you get near the site. It’s a big operation with a lot of machinery and people moving around in heavy boots and safety gear. The address is just Rewari, and that pretty much sums it up—we are part of the landscape here. The air smells like industry and the ground sometimes shakes a little when the big machines are running full tilt. We work in shifts, so there is always someone on-site, even in the middle of the night when it’s finally a bit cooler outside. Working with glass means you have to be careful and pay attention to what you are doing. It’s not the kind of job where you can just daydream. We have trucks coming in and out all day long, taking the finished products to different parts of India. It’s a dusty, loud, and busy place to spend your day. Most of us live nearby and have been working here for years, so we know the machines like the back of our hands. We don't have fancy office chairs or quiet cubicles; it’s more about the factory floor and getting the production numbers right. It is tough work, especially during the peak of summer, but it is what keeps this area going and provides for a lot of families around Rewari.
