Our spot is on the ground floor of building 2637 in DLF Phase IV. Gurgaon is always under construction it seems so there is usually some dust coming in through the door. Wal Mart Global Sourcing India Pvt Ltd sounds like a big name but our daily life here is pretty grounded. We spend a lot of time on the computer looking at spreadsheets and talking to factories across the country. The air conditioning is always a bit too cold in the morning and then too warm by three in the afternoon. We have a small kitchen area where we heat up our lunches and complain about the traffic on the way in. Working in sourcing means we are always looking at samples and checking if the quality is okay. Sometimes a sample arrives broken and we have to start the whole process over again. It’s not a glamorous job with fancy meetings. It’s mostly just making sure the right items get to the right place at the right time. We walk over to the nearby markets for a break sometimes just to get some fresh air away from the screens. The ground floor location is handy because we don’t have to wait for the elevators which are always slow anyway. We just keep our heads down and try to get the orders sorted before the weekend comes.
