Plumber

My place is in Village-Tatarpur Khalsa, right in the Rewari district of Haryana. It’s a rural spot, very different from the big cities. Being a plumber here means I travel between different villages like Bhatasana and others nearby. I don't have a shop in the middle of a market. I work from my home and go wherever someone has a burst pipe or a pump that isn't working. Life in the village is simple. We wake up with the sun and start working in the fields or on our trade. I’ve got a set of heavy tools that I carry on my cycle or bike. The ground here can be tough when you have to dig for a main line. People know me by face more than by any company name. I’ve lived in Tatarpur Khalsa all my life, so I know every lane and most of the families. There’s no corporate office or fancy uniforms here. I wear my old clothes because they’re going to get muddy anyway. Sometimes the work takes me all day, especially if the parts aren't available and I have to go into Rewari town to get them. It’s a quiet life, mostly. We talk about the weather and the crops while I’m fixing a tap. It’s just how things are done here in our part of Haryana. I wouldn't know how to do it any other way than this.
