Our place is tucked away in J-88-89 in Old Seemapuri. If you know Delhi, you know this area is always moving and can be quite loud. We deal with carpets, mostly moving them around and checking the stacks we have in the back rooms. The space is a bit crowded because rugs take up a lot of room once you start unrolling them on the floor to show someone. We spend a lot of time just making sure everything is where it should be. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy rolls and making sure they don’t get too dusty in the Delhi air. The traffic in Seemapuri can be a real headache, so getting deliveries in and out usually takes longer than we’d like it to. We have been here for a good bit now, working out of this same building for years. It isn't a showroom with bright lights or fancy displays; it’s more of a working warehouse where we get things sorted. You’ll usually find a few of us drinking chai while we wait for a truck to show up or when the rain starts. We don’t spend much on decorating the office since the carpets are the main thing anyway. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit by the door for some fresh air and watch the street. It is a simple operation, run by people who have lived in Delhi their whole lives. We just keep the inventory moving and try to keep the books straight. It’s honest work, even if the air is a bit thick with wool fibers some days.
