Our shop is at C 100/15 in Gali Number 11. We are in the Chauhan Banger area of Delhi-53. Being in a gali means things are tight. You can't get big trucks in here easily, so we do a lot of things by hand or with smaller carts. It's a crowded neighborhood, but it’s where we belong. We do various construction jobs around this part of town. It’s hard work and the sun is usually beating down on us. We aren't fancy people. Most of the time we are wearing old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. There’s always a shortage of space, so we have to be careful where we pile the sand and bricks. The neighbors know us well. We’ve been working on houses and small buildings in this area for years. There is no corporate ladder here. It is just the boss and the workers. We try to finish on time, but sometimes the rain or a late delivery slows us down. That’s just how it goes. We don't make big promises we can't keep. We just say what we can do and then we try to do it. It’s a simple way of living. Some days are better than others, but we always show up. There is always something that needs fixing or building in Delhi. We keep the cement mixer running and try to stay out of the way of the traffic in the street. It’s noisy and busy, but that's just Chauhan Banger for you. We just keep building.
