Tucked away in Gali No. 48, our spot here in Surat Nagar Phase-1 is easy to miss if you aren't looking for the number 6 on the gate. It’s a busy little street, and honestly, the potholes don’t make it any easier for the delivery vans to get in and out. Most of us have been working here for a few years now, and we’ve gotten used to the smell of the stuff we put in the cans. It’s just how the air is at an aerosol place. We start pretty early, usually before the sun gets too hot, because once midday hits, the tin roof makes things a bit warm inside. We don’t have any big corporate signs or anything like that, just the address painted on the wall. The guys in the back spend most of their time checking the valves and making sure the pressure is right on the filling lines. It’s repetitive work, but we talk while we do it to pass the time. Lunch is usually spent sitting on some crates near the entrance because it’s a bit cooler there with the breeze coming through the alley. Sometimes the power goes out in Phase-1, and we all just sit around waiting for the generator to kick in. It’s not a perfect setup, but it’s our corner of the neighborhood. We keep the floor swept as much as we can, though dust always finds its way back in.
