This is the office for John T Pattamthanam, located at Mary Bhavan in Makkamkunnu, which is part of Pathanamthitta in Kerala. It’s a bit of a unique setup because we’re working on energy projects while being based in such a green and quiet part of the country. Mary Bhavan is a family house, and we’ve converted part of it into a workspace. It’s a lot different than working in a big city like Kochi or Bangalore. From the window, you mostly see the trees and the neighborhood. We handle the local side of things for Foster Wheeler, mostly coordinating energy projects and checking through technical documents. Because of the time difference with the UK, we often end up working late into the evening. My family gets a bit annoyed with the phone ringing during dinner, but that is just part of the job. When the monsoon hits Pathanamthitta, the rain on the roof is so loud that it is hard to hear anything on the phone. We don’t have a big staff here, just a few people who know the technical side of things. We aren’t interested in making things look more important than they are. It’s just a practical home office where we get the work done. People in Makkamkunnu know us, but they don’t always know exactly what we do with all those blueprints. It’s a good life here.
