Dlf Laingo'Rourke India Ltd. is based over at 84 Chakkarpur in Gurgaon. Rohit Srivastava handles things here, and the place feels more like a lived-in house than a corporate office. Chakkarpur is a busy neighborhood with a lot of narrow streets and people always moving about. If you are coming to visit, you might have to dodge a few cows or some construction rubble on the way in. The building itself is pretty simple and does not have a big sign out front or anything fancy like that. Inside, the walls are a plain off-white and there is a ceiling fan that has been there forever. It makes a bit of a clicking sound when it is on high speed, but it keeps us cool enough during the Haryana summers. We have a few chairs for visitors, though they are usually covered in folders or site plans. The power cuts used to be a problem, but we have a backup now so the work does not stop when the grid fails. We spend most of our time on the phone or working through logistics on our laptops. It is a quiet operation for the most part, unless the neighbors are doing some loud repairs. We know the local shops where we can get a decent cup of tea in the afternoon. It is just a regular, unpolished workspace where we show up and do what needs to be done every day without much fuss.
