We’ve been here at Flat No 184 in the DDA Flats of New Ranjit Nagar for a while now. It’s not a big fancy showroom like you see in the malls, but just a regular place where we get our work done. Most days start with opening up the shutters and making sure the displays are wiped down. My cousin helps me out with the books and some of the smaller repairs that come in from people living around here. New Ranjit Nagar can get pretty crowded during the day, so there’s always noise coming in from the street while we sit and look at these tiny pieces of gold and silver. It takes a lot of patience to handle jewelry all day, especially when the light isn't hitting just right. We usually have tea around four in the afternoon when things quiet down a bit. Sometimes people just drop by to ask a question or show us something they found in an old box at home. It’s a quiet life mostly, just focusing on the benches and the tools we use every day. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. Most folks know where we are because we’ve stayed in this same spot in the flats for years. Sometimes the stairs get a bit dusty and the fan makes a clicking sound, but it feels like home. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing.
