Raj Clinic

Out here in Dharamkot, things move a little differently than in the big cities. Our clinic is right on the Main Road in Bagga, so everyone passing through this part of Punjab sees us. It’s a good spot because people from the nearby villages can reach us easily without much trouble. The road gets quite muddy when it rains, and we end up cleaning the floor five or six times a day. That’s just how it goes in this part of the country. We have a big wooden door that stays open most of the time to let the fresh air in. Inside, it’s mostly just the basics. We have a desk, some medicine cabinets, and a few chairs for the patients. It’s a quiet place compared to the cities, but on market days, the Main Road gets very crowded with tractors and bikes. We know most of our patients by their first names. Their families have lived around here for many generations. We don't use any fancy computer systems for our records; we mostly just write things down in the big ledgers. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for a place like Dharamkot. The electricity goes out sometimes in the afternoon, so we keep a few torches handy. It’s just the daily routine for us here in Bagga. We don’t make a big deal out of it, we just open up and wait for whoever needs us.
