About Handa Rice Mills – Food & Beverages in Gurdaspur
Handa Rice Mills is tucked away in Village Suchanian, which is under the P.O. Noshera in the Majha Singh area. It is a bit of a quiet corner of the world, but it gets plenty lively when the rice starts arriving from the nearby fields. We have a small team of people who have been with us for years. Most of them walk or bike here from their homes in the village. The mill itself has been standing for a while and shows its age in some spots, but it still gets the job done every single day. We don't really have a big sign or a shiny front office. Mostly, you will just see the bags stacked up and the trucks waiting their turn along the side of the road. The noise from the hullers is something you just get used to after a while. Sometimes the dust gets thick in the air, so we leave the big doors open to catch whatever breeze is blowing through. We handle the rice as it comes in. It is hard work, especially when the humidity is high and the grain is heavy. We usually have a radio playing in the background, though you can barely hear it over the sound of the engines. We just focus on keeping the flow going from the intake to the packaging area. It is a simple life here, centered around the seasons and the crops. When the sun goes down, we finish up and get ready for the next day.
