Vijayalakshmi Ice Creams

Our place, Vijayalakshmi Ice Creams, is over at Dr.No. 2-293-1 in Society Colony. It is a quiet residential area compared to the main town, which is nice. Most of our customers are the families who live in the houses nearby. We have a small porch where people stand and talk while they eat. It feels more like a house than a shop sometimes. We have been here for a few years and we know most of the kids who come in after school. The street is lined with trees, so it stays a bit cooler here in the shade. We keep a simple logbook for our daily sales and try to keep the flavors everyone likes. Sometimes the delivery truck struggles to get through the narrow streets of the colony. We have a small sign on the gate but it’s not very big. My uncle used to run a shop like this, so I learned the trade from him. We close up around nine at night when the street lights come on. It is a peaceful way to earn a living. The freezer hums in the corner and that is the only sound you hear most afternoons. We don't do much advertising, word of mouth among the neighbors is enough for us. It’s just a small family business trying to keep things going day by day in the colony. We enjoy the quiet evenings when the work is finally done.
