Patnam Bazar is a crowded place and that is where you will find Grt Chillies Exports. It is the kind of street where you have to watch your step because of the carts and people moving fast. Our building is tucked in there amongst all the other shops and warehouses. You can usually smell the spices in the air before you even see our door. It’s not a quiet office environment; there’s always the sound of bags being moved and people talking loudly to be heard over the street noise. We spend a lot of our time checking the quality of the chillies and getting them ready to go out. The floors are concrete and the lighting is just some basic tubes on the ceiling. We don’t have a lot of furniture, just what is necessary to get the job done. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when several deliveries arrive at once, but we manage to get through it. Most of us have been working here for a long time, so we know the rhythm of the bazar. If you come looking for us, you might have to dodge a few scooters parked on the sidewalk. It’s a busy, dusty, and loud place to work, but it’s home for us. We just do our work, drink our tea, and go home when the sun goes down.
