Down at Plot No. 22-2-19 in Cloth Bazar, you will find our place, Satyanarayan Ramesh Kumar & Company. It is a bit of an old-school spot, right in the heart of where everyone comes to buy their fabrics. The street outside is usually crowded with rickshaws and people carrying bags. We’ve been here for quite some time, and the building has that lived-in feel to it. Inside, it smells like new cloth and a bit of dust, which is pretty much what you expect in a bazaar. We don’t have any of those modern glass storefronts. Instead, we have shelves piled high with different types of material that we’ve sourced over the months. Sometimes it takes a minute to find the exact roll a customer is looking for, but we usually know where everything is. The wooden counters have some scratches from years of use, but they still hold up just fine. We start our day early to beat the worst of the afternoon sun. My brother and I usually handle most of the heavy lifting ourselves. It’s hard work, but we like the routine of it. We don't really use big words to describe what we do. We just sell cloth to people who need it. Most of our neighbors have been around as long as we have, so it feels like a little community. We just keep things simple and honest here without any extra fluff.
