Chanderi'S Sarees

Our little spot is over in Village Ramnagar, which is part of the Chanderi district. If you’ve ever been out this way, you know it’s not exactly a fast-paced place. We’ve got the shop here at A/10 and it’s been in the family for longer than I can remember. My grandfather used to sit in the same corner where I sit now, though the chair has been replaced twice since then. Chanderi'S Sarees isn't some big factory with machines doing all the work. It’s mostly just the sound of the looms clicking back and forth all day. You can hear it from the street if you walk by in the afternoon. We spend a lot of time just looking at threads and making sure the colors look right under the sunlight. Sometimes the dust from the village roads gets into everything, so we spend half the morning just cleaning up. It’s hard work on the eyes and the back, but it’s what we know how to do. We don’t really have a big sign out front, just the address and people usually find us by asking around at the post office nearby. It’s quiet out here, except for the occasional tractor or some kids playing in the dirt. We just take it one piece at a time and try not to rush things because the thread breaks if you're too fast.
