Chanderi Handloom Development Producer Company Limited

Our place is located over in Nayapura near the Khiraki Darwaja. If you know this part of town, you know it is where a lot of the traditional weaving happens. It is mostly just a group of us working together to keep the handlooms going. Saeed Ahmad Kurreshi is the name on the door usually but there are several of us inside. We spend most of our time at the looms, just throwing the shuttle back and forth and watching the patterns grow. It is slow work but that is just how Chanderi fabric has to be made. You cannot really rush it or the quality just does not come out right. We are not a big factory or anything like that. It is more like a workshop where people from the community come in and out all day long. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded with all the thread and the wooden frames taking up most of the floor space. We talk while we work to pass the time and share news. It is a quiet part of town mostly, except for that constant sound of the looms clicking. We have been here for a bit now, just trying to make sure the local weavers have a place to bring their work. It takes a lot of coordination and checking on things every morning. We do not have much in the way of fancy furniture, just the tools we need for the fabric. We focus on getting the designs right for the market.
