Venkateswra Concrete Bricks

Out here by the Pethikuppam Gate on GNT Road, things stay pretty busy with all the truck traffic. At Venkateswra Concrete Bricks, we spend most of our hours outdoors or in the shed where the mixers are. The ground is usually covered in a bit of grey dust from the cement and sand, which is just how it goes with this kind of work. We make bricks all day and stack them up to dry in the yard. It can get quite hot in the afternoons, so we start early to beat the sun. There are a few of us who handle the heavy lifting and the machine operation. We don’t have a big office or anything, just a small desk where we keep the books and take down what people want. Mostly, it’s local builders or guys with small lorries coming in to pick up loads for nearby projects. We don't do any flashy advertising. Usually, people just see our stacks of blocks from the road and pull in to ask about prices. The machines make a lot of noise, so sometimes we have to shout to hear each other. It’s hard work and your hands get rough, but it’s a steady living. We just make sure the bricks are solid and the counts are right before the trucks leave the gate. It’s a straightforward business and we like it that way. Most days we are just glad to get the work finished before it gets dark.
