Ambulance - amrutrao Patil

This is the ambulance service run by Amrutrao Patil, based out of the Dr. Sarojani Modi Hospital. We aren't a big company with a fleet of hundreds of vehicles. It’s a more personal operation. The ambulance is parked right there at the hospital, ready for when a call comes in. We mostly help people who need to get to the hospital quickly or those who need to be moved from one place to another because they can't sit up in a regular car. The vehicle is kept clean and we check the oxygen tanks and the stretcher every morning. Amrutrao handles a lot of the coordination himself. It can be a stressful job because you never know when the phone will ring. Sometimes it’s the middle of the night and we have to head out into the dark. We know the local roads very well, which helps in avoiding the worst of the traffic. The interior of the ambulance is basic but has what is needed for safe transport. We don't have a fancy office; we just use a small desk inside the hospital area. Most of the work is done on the move. We talk to families a lot, trying to keep them calm while we drive. It’s a practical service for the community. We don't do any advertising; the hospital just lets people know we are there if they need a ride to their homes or another facility.
