Khatu Shyam Bricks

Over here in Purana Hewatpur, Khatu Shyam Bricks has been operating near the Bhagwati School for a good stretch of time. If you’re looking for us in Goutam Budh Nagar, you’ll probably see the stacks of bricks before you see the sign. It’s a lot of manual labor, stacking and loading day after day. The school kids walk by in the morning and we’re already out there starting the first loads. It’s a dusty place to work, that’s for sure. We don't have any fancy brochures or a marketing department. We just have bricks and the trucks that carry them. The weather really dictates how our week goes; if it’s pouring rain, everything slows down and we just wait it out in the small shed we use as an office. We talk to the contractors and the local guys who are putting up walls or fixing their backyards. Most of the people who work here live nearby, so it’s a tight-knit group. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years, with new houses going up everywhere. It’s a lot of responsibility making sure the counts are right and the loads are ready to go when someone pulls up. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It isn't glamorous, but it’s what we know how to do. We take things one day at a time here. Everyone knows where we are and we like it that way.
