Saree Ghar has been sitting here at Vijay Chowk for quite some time now. If you've ever walked through Vijay Chowk, you've probably seen our sign. It's a busy corner, always something going on outside the door. Inside, it's a bit quieter. We have rows and rows of sarees stacked up on the wooden shelves. I’ve spent many years here, just showing people different fabrics and patterns. It’s funny how some people know exactly what they want while others need to see every single thing in the shop. I don't mind. I like the smell of the new fabric when I open a fresh bundle. The floor is just simple tile, and we have those big lights that make everything look bright. My nephew helps out sometimes when he's not at school. We don't have a big website or anything, just this physical shop where you can come and touch the clothes yourself. It’s better that way. You can see the work on the borders and feel the weight of the silk. Sometimes the tea man brings us a couple of cups in the afternoon. We sit on the floor and talk about the day. It’s not a big corporate store, just Saree Ghar. We keep it simple because that’s what works for us and for the people who live around here. It’s just a practical way to run a small shop in a busy area.
