Padhe Beti Badhe Beti Foundation

The Padhe Beti Badhe Beti Foundation operates out of a place in Ahirauli, which is near the Shuklpuri post office in Gorakhpur. It is actually located at the home of Radhe Krishna Dube’s son, so it feels more like a house than a formal office. We have set up a few tables in the front room where we do most of the work. Living and working in the same area means there is no real commute, which is nice, but it also means neighbors are always popping in to say hello. The area around Gorakhpur is quiet compared to the big cities, but we stay busy enough with the local stuff. There is usually a pot of tea going in the kitchen, and someone is always coming by with a new idea or a problem to solve. We do not have a website that gets updated every day or a team of marketing people. It is mostly just us using what we have to get things done. The floors are stone and the windows are usually open to let in a breeze, even when it is dusty outside. We spend a lot of time talking to the families nearby and keeping track of things in big handwritten ledgers. It is a very hands-on way to run things, and we prefer it that way. Sometimes the internet is slow, so we just wait it out and talk about the schedule instead.
