Ashmit Furniture

We have been running Ashmit Furniture for a good while now at Ghosh Company Chowk. Our shop is right there near the Sadar Hospital, so it stays pretty busy around us most of the day. We spend most of our time working with wood and trying to get things to look right. It is a simple place with sawdust on the floor and tools scattered around the benches. We make things like beds, tables, and those big wooden cupboards people use for clothes. It is just me and a few guys who know how to handle a saw and a hammer. We do not have any fancy showroom with bright lights or glass windows. People just walk in off the street when they need something sturdy for their house. Sometimes the noise from the hospital traffic gets a bit much, but you get used to it after a few years. We drink a lot of tea while we work and talk about what needs to get done by the end of the week. The wood comes in on trucks and we have to unload it ourselves, which is hard work. We stay open until late evening usually. It is not a perfect shop and things can be a bit messy sometimes, but we are always here doing the work. If you are near the chowk, you will see us out front sanding down a piece of timber or moving a heavy chair. It is just a normal life for us.
