Apj Kalam Pvt. Iti is situated over in Kanchanpur, on the road that leads to the Medical College. We’re out here in the Gulharia part of Gorakhpur, 273013. This isn't a fancy place with glass walls or anything. It's a vocational school where people come to learn actual trades. We have workshops and some old machinery that we use for practice. The students come from the surrounding villages and the city too. It’s a bit of a trek for some, but they make it. We spend most of the day in the labs or the classrooms, just going over how things work. The instructors are guys who have worked in the field for a long time. They don't give long speeches; they just show you how to fix stuff. It’s honest work. The building is functional—it keeps the rain out and gives us space to work. We don’t have a big staff, so everyone chips in with the cleaning and the paperwork. Gorakhpur can get really hot, so we try to keep the windows open for a breeze. It’s a humble place, just trying to help young people get a job. We don’t do much advertising; people usually find us through word of mouth or by seeing the sign on Medical College Road. There’s always some grease on the tables and the sound of tools in the background, but that’s how we like it. It feels real.
