We run this mustard oil mill over in Bahadurpur, which is in the Lalganj area. If you come near our place, you can usually smell the mustard seeds being pressed. It’s a strong scent that sticks to your clothes, but we don't mind it anymore. The machinery is loud and takes a lot of looking after. We spend most of our time on the floor of the mill, making sure the oil is coming out right. It’s a dusty, busy environment. We don't have a front desk or anyone to greet you; we’re usually too busy with the pressing. Lalganj is a good spot for this kind of work. We get the seeds from local growers and just get to work. There’s no big corporate strategy here. We just want to produce oil that people in the neighborhood can use for their cooking. Some days the machines break down and we have to spend hours fixing them with greasy hands. That’s just part of the job. We aren't looking to be the biggest mill around, just a steady one that does its work every day without too much fuss. It gets hot in the summer with the machines running, but we just keep the fans going and carry on. We hope the oil we make is useful to the folks around here.
