Shriram Rice Mill

Shriram Rice Mill is located near the railway crossing on Birsi Road in the Gondiya district. You can hear the trains passing by all day long, which is just part of the background noise for us now. Being near the crossing makes it easy for transport, though we sometimes have to wait for the gates to open when moving our trucks. Gondiya is known for its rice, so we fit right in with the other mills in the area. Our setup is quite basic. We have the milling area, a small office space that’s usually cluttered with papers, and plenty of space for storage. We work long hours when the new crop comes in. The humidity can be tough, but the work has to be done. We are just a local bunch of people trying to keep the mill running smoothly. There aren’t any big speeches or grand plans. We just look at the grain, process it, and make sure the bags are stitched right. If there’s a problem with a machine, we fix it ourselves or call the mechanic from town. It’s a very grounded way of working. Most of our neighbors are also in the same line of business. We see them at the market or by the road. It’s a simple community. We just keep our heads down and focus on the rice. That’s what we know how to do best. We are part of the landscape here, just another mill by the tracks.
