Our mill is over on Murli Road, right in the middle of Bajpai Ward here in Gondia. If you know this area, you know how important rice is to everyone around here. We spend our days surrounded by the smell of parboiled grain and the sound of the hulling machines. It’s a big space but it always feels full of something, whether it’s new stock coming in or empty bags waiting to be used. Parag Rice Mill isn’t a place with shiny floors or air conditioning. It’s a working mill. We deal with farmers and traders who come through Bajpai Ward every day. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, and we all just sit outside on the steps and wait for it to come back on. That’s just life in Gondia. We have a small crew and most of us have been here for years. We know the machines and we know how the weather affects the drying process. Murli Road can get pretty crowded with carts and trucks, especially during the harvest months. It’s a lot of physical work, hauling sacks and watching the sorters. We don’t have any fancy mission statements or anything like that. We just try to make sure the rice that leaves here is decent and that we keep the mill running as best we can. It is tough work, but it is what we know how to do best.
