We even put the mobile number right there on the documents because we are always out in the fields and not sitting at a desk. Oneunited Agriculture is just what it sounds like—a bunch of us in Gondiya joining forces. This area has its own challenges with the soil and the way the rain falls. Most of us have been doing this since we were kids, following our fathers into the fields. We didn't want to just keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. So we formed this private limited company to be a bit more official about our trading. It helps when we need to talk to banks or big buyers. But at the end of the day, we are still just guys who get mud on our clothes every day. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment. We use what we have and we help each other out when someone is short on hands during the harvest. Gondiya is a place where people know their neighbors, so it felt natural to start this company together. We spend a lot of time talking about the price of seeds and the cost of transport. It is honest work. We are just trying to make sure that agriculture stays a viable way to live in our village. It is not always easy to make ends meet, but we try.
