It is a good landmark to have, especially since the police station is a busy place in our town. Amgaon is a smaller place compared to the big cities, but we like the pace of life here. Our office is on a decent-sized plot, and we’ve tried to make it comfortable for anyone who needs to drop by. We spend a lot of time sitting at these desks, looking out at the street. There is always someone walking by or a motorbike zipping past. The mornings are usually the quietest time before the sun gets too high and the town wakes up fully. We keep our records in order and try to stay on top of the daily chores. It is not a high-tech office with glass walls or anything like that. It’s just a solid building with walls that have seen a few monsoons. Sometimes the rain hits the roof so loud we have to raise our voices to hear each other. We drink a lot of chai and talk to the people who come in from the surrounding villages. It’s a simple way of working, but it works for us. We are just local people doing our jobs in Amgaon, making sure things get done properly for the folks who live here. It feels good to be part of the community.
