Jyoti Rice Mill

Being out here at Jyoti Rice Mill in Village-Kattipar, things move at a bit of a different pace than the big cities. We are situated in Amgaon, right in the Gondia district, which is a good place for this kind of work. The mill is a noisy place when the engines are running, but we are used to it. Every morning starts early, usually before the sun is even fully up, because there is always a lot of grain to process. We spend a lot of time cleaning the equipment and making sure the bags are stacked properly in the back. The air always smells a bit like toasted husk and dust. It is a local operation, so we know most of the people who come by with their carts or small trucks. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit around and wait, which gives us a chance to have some tea and talk. It is not always easy work, especially when the weather gets humid and the rice starts to feel heavy. We do not do much in the way of advertising. Most folks just know where we are in Kattipar. We try to keep things simple and honest. The building itself has seen better days, maybe it needs a bit of paint, but the machinery inside works just fine. That is what matters most to us at the end of the day. We are just a small part of the village life here and we like it that way. Most days we finish up around sunset and lock the gates before going home to our families.
